Growing up in West Branch, IA, Doug was surrounded by history, including US President Herbert Hoover, the Underground Railroad, and John Brown's journey to Harper's Ferry.

After high school he proudly served in the US Marine Corps before studying history at the University of Iowa.  

He is a current member of the American Legion, Marine Corps Association, American Battlefield Trust, the Antietam Institute, and the Military Writers Society of America.

Doug lives in Iowa City, IA with his children and works full-time as a Director of Health & Safety for a global logistics company.

In addition to writing, he enjoys travel, live music, and sports.

Doug writes about American military history, with a focus on the Civil War.

And Here We Lie is his first novel.
